Dear Asiana Club
Members,
I would like to extend my best wishes for the New Year and express
my sincere thanks to all of you who have made Asiana your airline
of choice.
As I look back on my first year as President, it has been a time of
exceptional challenge for all of us in the airline industry. Last
winter we faced some of the worst snowstorms in the history of Korean
aviation. We moved out Korea hub operation from Kimpo to the new International
Airport at Incheon, literally overnight. The Korean airline industry
endured a nationwide strike. The country's aviation rating was downgraded
by the US FAA. And our lives were forever changed by the horrific
events of September 11 in the United States.
But in spite of the challenging environment, we have emerged with
a new sense of resolve to overcome even the greatest of adversities-together
as a company, as a nation and as a global community. I am proud of
our accomplishments under these trying times and look forward to what
I believe will be a most exciting 2002.
The climate looking forward, holds exceptional promise. The Korean
economy is recovering at a much faster pace than most of its' global
counterparts. The post IMF restructuring has positioned Korean industry,
including Asian, as a mush stronger and healthier competitor. The
Korean Government has recovered its Category I, top rating from the
US FAA in record short time. Our new home at Incheon International
Airport is the best in the world. The 2002 World Cup will bring millions
of new visitors and the eyes of the world to Korea. And Asiana's route
strength in China and Japan, will enable us to achieve what promises
to be the highest and most profitable growth in some of the world's
largest markets.
As we spread our wings to take advantage of these exciting opportunities,
you can look forward to expanded routes, new global relationships
with the world's leading airlines, additional Asiana Club partners,
new aircraft and our commitment to ever improving customer service.
We sincerely appreciate your support during this past year and look
forward to sharing these bright prospects for the future. I would
like to wish you the best of health and happiness in the New Year
and thank you for flying with us.
Sincerely yours |

Chan Bup Park
